| Subject : Samsung Electronics Paid the Largest Amount of Patent Fees in Korea |

Samsung Electronics is reported to be the domestic company that has paid the greatest amount in patent fees to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).
According to a report ‘Patent Fee Payments of Right-holders’ prepared by the KIPO to Assemblyman Taewhan Kim (the Grand National Party) of the Knowledge Economy Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Samsung Electronics paid KRW 18.9 billion, ranking first from among domestic companies.
LG Electronics (KRW 6.8 billion) ranks second and is followed by Hynix Semiconductor (KRW 5.7 billion), Hyundai Motor Company (KRW 2.6 billion), and Samsung SDI (KRW 2.2 billion).
From among colleges and universities, Seoul National University (KRW 400 million) ranks first and is followed by Yonsei University (KRW 270 million) and Korea University (KRW 210 million).
Canon (KRW 2.7 billion) ranks first from among foreign companies and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) ranks first from among public organizations.
Samsung is also reported to be the domestic company that has filed the most patent applications and trademarks registrations (62,428 cases) as of September this year. |
