Korea’s Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) Patent Competitiveness is 2nd in the world, ranking behind USA.
Regarding applicant companies, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are respectively ranked the worlds 2nd and 3rd largest behind US-based company Honeywell.
According to results of an analysis on MEMS patent applications filed from 1988 to 2007 in main MEMS patent applying countries, such as Korea, USA, Europe, and Japan, by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA)-affiliated RFID/USN Center (president, Sangcheol Shin) performed on October 11, USA has 2347 applied cases (65%), ranking first, and Korea has 473 applied cases, ranking second. Japan has 429 applied cases (12%), ranking third, and Europe has 352 applied cases (10%), ranking fourth.
Shin said “All MEMS patent activities in Korea, USA, Europe, and Japan are performed by industries and patent applications regarding MEMS technologies need to be aggressively filed for intellectual property protection against patent trolls that are getting more serious day after day.” |
