Abstract: A lightweight vegetative base and a vegetative mat are provided. The vegetative base comprises a number of densely packed wood chips and a filler filled in spaces between the wood chips to maintain the densely packed wood chips in a planar structure. The vegetative base and the vegetative mat can be used in a simple manner to grow various plants thereon without requiring any vegetative soil, such as soil or artificial soil. In addition, the vegetative base and the vegetative mat are lightweight and are thus very useful in the afforestation of artificial grounds, particularly building roofs.
