The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Rambus intentionally destroyed documents related to patent infringement trials with Hynix Semiconductor, the world¡¯s No. 2 producer of computer memory chips.
Last year, the court ruled in favor of Rambus, which alleged that Hynix infringed on 15 Rambus patents related to dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip technology.
It ordered Hynix to pay Rambus $397 million in compensation and additional royalties. Hynix had appealed this decision.
The decision at hand says that Rambus¡¯ destruction of documents nullifies the ruling regarding damages.
