Subject : LG Won A Patent Lawsuit Against Sony
Date 2011-03-29 Visit 3822

As LG Electronics won a patent court injunction in Hague civil court, all PlayStation 3 game consoles of Sony to be imported will be seized by British customs authority for 10 days from now. The ban on imports is currently set only for 10 days but could be extended if Sony cannot overturn a court¡¯ decision won by LG.

Along with Court decision, customs officials have been ordered to seize all British PlayStation 3s shipments following a row over the use of Blu-Ray technology within the consoles.

Sony appealed the decision to the European Patent Office, but LG can also apply to extend the ban.

LG accused Sony of using its Blu-ray technology within its console to allow it to playback Blu-ray discs.

If Sony to lose the case in the next rounds of court, it would have to pay a fee for every console it sells, it could be at least millions and millions based on Sony¡¯s sales number of Play Station 3.

In British alone, 3 million units have been sold since its launch in 2007, while the company imports around 100,000 into Europe every week.

The row over the PlayStations is one of seven ongoing patent lawsuits between the two companies.
