According to a report made by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) on 9 August, there has been a total of 2009 patents filed between 1999 to 2009.
This began with 100 patents in 2000, which went through great changes in 2006 when price of oil increased dramatically.
Even after the oil price stabilized, the number of patents filed has shown a consistent rise with 356 patents in 2008 and 260 patents in 2009.
808 of these patents were regarding hybrid-card related technologies and 437 patents were regarding fuel cell cars.
