According to a report made by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) , there has been a dramatic increase in the number of design applications filed regarding full-touch bar-type design applications.
There were 12 design applications regarding such technology in 2007, 23 design applications in 2008, and 67 design applications in 2009.
There have been 41 design applications this year already.
The full-touch bar-type design applications were first filed by Apple in 2007, which led to dramatic changes in designs of cellular phones.
Samsung Electronics released a full-touch bar-type cellular phone design in December of the same year, followed by many such designs by Korean phone manufacturers.
Samsung Electronics led the trend with 9 design applications in 2007, 20 design applications in 2008, and 45 design applications in 2009.
LG Electronics filed 4 design applications in 2007, 14 design applications in 2008, and 26 design applications in 2009, also demonstrating a dramatic increase in such applications. |
