Subject : Messenger Phishing Prevented with Patented Technologies
Date 2010-06-30 Visit 4186

According to a report made by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) , there has been a great increase in the number of patent applications to control and prevent phishing.
There were 3 such patents in 2006, which increased to 4 in 2007, 18 in 2008, and 31 in 2009.
This is because there has been a drastic increase in a phishing fraud since 2008, which created a new demand for developing technologies in this field by security firms or messenger service firms.
The main messenger phishing control technology is comparing frequently used fraud messages with fraud-type DB and generating warning messages to people who use such messages.
Authentication technologies have improved as well to prevent damages caused by phishing.
Phishing methods have been diversified recently, which calls for new methods of preventing such phishing as well.
The number of patent applications is expected to continue rising.
