Subject : Overcoming the Apple Barrier with Korean Mobile Phone Patents
Date 2010-06-30 Visit 4576

Google and Apple are meeting each other at a patent battle.
Google is collecting cellular phone patents through Korean corporations in order to face Apple.
According to a report, Google has requested Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics that provide latest Android operating system (OS) to transfer their cellular phone patents not held by Apple to them.
This move can be interpreted as a Google¡¯s attempt to face Apple by acquiring relevant technological patents that are not held by Apple.
An LG Electronics spokesperson explained that Apple has requested for LG Electronics to transfer cellular phone patents last month.
LG Electronics is seriously considering this request as Apple is one of its main competitors as well.
Google has also made a similar request to Samsung Electronics that owns a lot of patents regarding cellular phones.
Google has maintained great relationships with Samsung Electronics.
This appears as a Google¡¯s preparation against a battle of patent suits against Apple. A Samsung Electronics IP person stated that ¡°it is true that Google has been collecting relevant patents in preparation for a patent battle against Apple,¡± and that ¡°there hasn¡¯t been an official request for patents from Google yet, but it is a very realistic possibility.¡±
It seems that Google has requested all manufacturers for supplying Androids to transfer patents that are not owned by Apple to them.
Apple currently owns 200 iPhone-related patents and it is a Google¡¯s goal to break this great patent barrier.
