According to a report made by Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), 1,319 Korean companies out of 6,000 companies (22%) responded on a survey that they have experienced infringements on their intellectual property.
Out of 2,038 exporting companies, 584 (29%) of them revealed that they have experienced such infringements.
Makers of electronics (20.5%), services (11.4%), clothing/fabric (8.6%), and mechanical devices (8.6%) have been damaged by the infringements.
The survey and research showed that 65% of exporting companies did not own intellectual property, which made it difficult for them to protect their rights.
71.8% of all the companies responded that their annual spending on intellectual property rights constituted less than KRW 10 million.
Only 5.6% of the companies had intellectual property-related departments and 39.4% of the companies declared that they had no personnel on intellectual property. |
