Samsung Electronics, the world¡¯s largest memory-chip maker, signed a contract with Rambus, a US-based technology licensing company, to drop all legal suits over memory-chip technology. Samsung agreed to pay $700 million to Rambus for next five years for buying licenses of Rambus¡¯s patented technology for Samsung¡¯s entire semiconductor products, the electronics company said Wednesday.
Samsung Electronics¡¯ board of directors approved the deal in its meeting held on January 19.
Under the deal, Samsung will pay $200 million in advance and pay $25 million every quarter for next five years.
The two companies agreed to end all legal claims over patents.
Samsung also agreed to buy Rambus¡¯ new stocks for $200 million.
Samsung and Rambus, agreed to build a firm partnership by putting an end to clash for patent infringement, are anticipating a good synergy in the semiconductor industry. |
