Patent examination experts from the world¡¯s five largest patent offices (IP5) will gather together to join in a ¡®Patent Examination Olympic¡¯ to compete using their examining abilities next month in Daejeon, Korea.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) reported that an ¡®IP5 examiners prior art search strategy research convention¡¯ will be held from October 20-23 (4 days) at the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI) in Daejeon.
This convention was first proposed by the head of the KIPO who attended an ¡®IP5 commissioners meeting¡¯ held in October 2008 on Jeju island. The aim of the convention is to increase collaboration between the world¡¯s largest patent offices.
Since the world¡¯s five largest patent offices, located in Korea, USA, Japan, China, and Europe and having a combined share of 80% of worldwide patents, will attend the convention, it is called a ¡®Patent Examiners¡¯ Olympic¡¯.
In the convention, 15 representative examiners of patents related to electronics, chemicals, machinery, and so on compete using their ability to solve problems in corresponding technical fields.
The KIPO expects that this convention will help the examiners to learn from each other via a competition and thus will contribute to building solid partnership between represented countries. |
