| Subject : 40% decrease in patent acquisition of listed companies |

It is reported that patent rights acquisition by listed companies has significantly decreased this year compared to last year.
According to an aggregate by Korea Exchange (KRX), the number of patents acquired this year by listed companies is 60, which is a reduction of 43.93% compared to 107 patents last year.
To be more specific, the number of patent acquisitions related to medical products is 20, which represents the greatest number of patent acquisitions for a single field, and following are electric and electronic related patents (11 cases) and machine related patents (10 cases) follow it.
Last year, the semiconductor industry acquired the greatest number of patents, and then machine-equipment related patents, IT parts related patents, and communication devices related patents followed.
A person from KRX said that most companies reduced R&D costs this year so as to overcome the current financial crisis, and thus the number of patent acquisitions is decreased accordingly. |
