The brand value of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has exceeded 1 trillion won, which is a half of that of Korea Telecom (KT).
To be more specific, ‘Omni brand’, a brand value evaluation company, evaluated the brand value of ETRI for the last 6 months and determined that the brand value is 9573 hundred million won.
According to a company brand value result reported last year, the brand value of Samsung Electronics was 11.6899 trillion won, the brand value of Hyundai Motors was 5. 6156 trillion won, the brand value of LG electronics was 4.3725 trillion won, the brand value of KIA Motors was 2. 677 trillion won, and the brand value of KT was 2.1017 trillion won. In consideration of the total sales amount or sales profit and the size of ETRI, which is half of KT, the actual brand value of ETRI is equivalent to that of KT.
Omni brand commented that ETRI obtained 92 points in evaluation of a brand function and role index, which is significantly high in consideration of ETRI’s research business that is related to B2B.
The factors that have increased the brand value of ETRI include original and core technologies related to the digital contents fields, including TDX-exchange, DRAM, CDMA, Wibro, terrestrial DMB, a fourth generation mobile communication system (NoLA), digital actor, or the like, a power in technologies that has been accumulated for over the last 30 years, intellectual properties including domestic and overseas technology patents and registration, a large manpower of researchers, or the like.
The head of ETRI said that ETRI is relatively well-known to overseas IT- related research institutes, and IT applications will be expanded completely into industrial fields, including transportation, health, national defense, space, or the like, according to the upcoming IT-based convergence era.
Meanwhile, the economical result of ETRI’s 30 year-research achievements is 104 trillion won. To be more specific, some of the figures reported are TDX (7 trillion won), DRAM (9.6 trillion won), CDMA (56.4 trillion won), terrestrial DMB (5.4 trillion won), Wibro (5 trillion won), and miscellaneous (20.9 trillion won).
