The patent related to Norvasc, which is Pfizer's popular blood pressure medicine, has become invalidated.
Ahn Gook Pharmacy reported that a hearing for a final appeal with respect to 2 lawsuits including ¡®a lawsuit for the nullification of a patent and the confirmation of the scope of rights¡¯ filed by Pfizer against Ahn Gook Pharmacy has been all rejected by the Supreme Court.
This patent dispute began in 2006 when Pfizer Korea sued Ahn Gook Pharmacy, alleging that Ahn Gook Pharmacy had violated patent rights by producing the blood pressure medicine Rebotensen, of which the main ingredients are the same as those in Norvasc. In opposition to this, Ahn Gook Pharmacy filed a counter-lawsuit against Pfizer regarding the nullification of the patent related to Norvasc.
Pfizer and Ahn Gook Pharmacy exchanged victory and defeat over 2 trials. However, as Pfizer¡¯s appeal has been rejected by the Supreme Court, victory of this patent dispute finally belongs to Ahn Gook Pharmacy. |
