Developed in Korea, an inkjet-related technology regarding a PCB substrate has been transferred to Silicon Valley, United States.
Soonchunhyang University’s university-industry partnership team announced that it has transferred technology regarding an apparatus and related software for measuring and analyzing inkjet ejection necessary for fabricating a PCB substrate to Tungs International (Chairman: Charles Tung) for $10,000.
Tungs International is a company located in Silicon Valley, California that manufactures PCB substrates by using inkjet techniques and is planning to build a PCB substrate manufacturing factory and a laboratory in Taiwan by the end of this year.
The technology has been recently developed and applied for international patent by Gye-si Kwon, a professor in the mechanical engineering department of Soonchunhyang University. Charles Tung, the chairman of Tungs International, who has worked at Hewlett-Packardfor 12 years, checked the technology and requested Professor Kwon to transfer the technology.
An official from Soonchunhyang University said, “We’re very interested in this transfer of technology, not only because our technology has been recognized by a foreign company, but also because it is our first technology that has been transferred abroad. We’re expecting to significantly increase profits from running royalties if we close a commercializing contract within the next 3 to 5 years.
