Korea United Pharm Inc. said yesterday that it has obtained two patents on drug manufacturing processes.
One of the patents was granted for a way of manufacturing clarithromycin pills with reduced bitterness.
Clarithromycin, which is an antibiotic used to treat tonsillitis, throat infections and chronic infections of the respiratory tract, has a strong bitter taste.
The new process covers the pill with a coat of water-insoluble polymer to reduce bitterness, while maintaining the drug`s absorbability, the company said.
The other patent was granted for a type of soluble acetaminophen tablets. Commonly known as paracetamol or by the brand name Tylenol, acetaminophen is a commonly used fever reducer and pain reliever. According to the company the drug is also one of the most commonly used drugs in treating children.
The company said that soluble acetaminophen tablets were easier to store and medicate than other forms, such as syrup and swallow tablets, and that the new drug was less bitter than other soluble acetaminophen tablets.
Korea United Pharm product containing clarithromycin produced with the patented process is currently available on local and overseas markets and the company is preparing to launch soluble acetaminophen tablets. |
