There has been a rapid rise in the number of applications for using personal names as brand names or trademarks.
According to a report made by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) on 11 May, there have been 2,513 applications for utilizing personal names as trademarks in the five years since 2004.
Compared to 1,363 applications between 1950 and 2000, this is a drastic rise in the last several years.
The name ¡®Jung Cheol¡¯ of ¡®Jung Cheol Language Institute¡¯ was most frequently filed for application with 43 applications, ¡®Ha Seonjung¡¯ came in second with 41 applications, ¡®Park Hwayeop¡¯ third with 23 applications, and ¡®Lee Chanjin¡¯ fourth with 22 applications.
¡®Andre Kim¡¯ was among those noted.
Personal service industry comprised 53.3% with 1,341 applications, foods comprised 16.4% with 413 applications, books and office supplies comprised 3.9% with 98 applications, and cosmetics comprised 2.2% with 56 applications |
