SK Energy announced that they have won the final law suit raised by Tonen of Japan on lithium ion battery separator (LiBS) at Korea¡¯s Supreme Court.
Tonen is a subsidiary of Exxon-Mobil in Japan which dominates the Korean market together with another Japanese firm called Asahi Chemical Industry.
According to SK Energy, SK became the third player in December 2004 and first in Korea to develop LiBS with mass production.
In March 2007, Tonen filed a law suit against SK for violating domestic intellectual property right and sales confidentiality.
An SK Energy spokesperson explained that this legal victory will allow SK Energy to surpass Tonen and become the second biggest player in the industry.
SK Energy currently owns 30% of the Korean LiBS market with Tonen owning 20%.
