Samsung Electronics has won a patent infringement lawsuit it filed against Sharp in a Japanese court, the latest development in an ongoing legal tussle between the two LCD panel makers, industry sources said.
This is the first time a Korean company has won a patent lawsuit against a Japanese company in Japanese courts, they said.
In the case, filed in the Tokyo District Court in December 2007, Samsung contended that Sharp violated one of its patents related to LCD technology. The latest court decision was made on March 6. Samsung is the world`s top maker of LCDs, used in TVs, monitors and notebook computers.
Samsung`s legal action came after Sharp sued the Korean company over patent violations in the Tokyo District Court in October 2008. In January, the court ruled against Samsung in a suit filed by Sharp.
The two rivals filed patent violation lawsuits against each other since August 2007.
In January, Samsung won a patent lawsuit against Sharp it filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission.
A Samsung spokesperson confirmed the Tokyo District Court`s latest ruling on the patent case, but declined to comment further, saying the legal dispute is still under way. |
