Shinhan Bank is offering its Internet banking services in nine languages as part of efforts to better cater to an increasing population of foreigners living and working in Korea, bank officials said.
Under the name “Shinhan Global Net Service, banking options are now available in Chinese, English, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Thai, Japanese, Mongolian and Indonesian as well as Korean.
The services cover checking one’s account balance, transferring funds and international remissions. Especially, when one makes overseas transfers, Shinhan clients can get a discount of up to 50 percent.
Bank officials said that, with this new service, about 85 percent of all foreigners, their number estimated at 1.02 million as of June, will be able to access online services in their own language.
“We are trying to win a patent for our multilingual online service,” a bank official said. “We are planning to update and improve our services for multicultural households and foreigners in a sustained manner in order to strengthen our customer base for retail banking and future globalization.”
